The virtue of reading Surah Al-Kahf on Friday #1

In a large part of Surah Al-Kahf, 3 stories are told that we should all take a lesson from. One of these stories is the youth of Ashab-i Kehf.

ASHAB-I KEHF YOUTH

It is mentioned that the youth of the Companions of the Kehf wanted to be killed by the oppressors because of their belief in Allah, and that these believing youths did not give up their faith and took shelter in the cave on the mountain. Let’s summarize the story of the youth of the Companions very briefly…

A cruel king named Ashab-ı Kehf and Roman Emperor Dekyus-Decius coincides with the period when the youth of Ashab-ı Kehf lived. The cruel king orders his employees to gather all believers together so that these young people who believe in Allah are killed. He says that when the police caught the Companions, he ordered them to choose idolatry. When young people do not accept this, they go through tough tortures. At that time, people who were killed were hung on the door. The king gives respite to these young believers who come from abroad to give up.

Meanwhile, young people take shelter in the cave near the city with the food they collect. And they pray like this:

“Our Lord! Grant us mercy from your side and prepare for us a way out of our (this) situation!..” (VERSE 10 OF SURE KEHF)

Allah (swt) comes to the rescue of these young people and puts them to sleep there. God brings to the King the thought of covering the cave. Although it is thought that they will die of hunger, according to some rumors, they are put to sleep for 309 years and according to others for 900 years. They then wake up and surrender their souls. This miraculous sleep is a lesson to everyone…
